I’m back in the Concert hall of the National theatre in Nairobi, the training centre of KPAG, their cradle of creation, and again I’m allowed to witness the process of creativity, another physical expression of food for thoughts is born.

The conference centre of the beautiful Safaripark hotel is the stage for the launch of the WSD, the german foundation for world population. KPAG supports this initiative for a better world, of course, and the roughly cut rocks of the Concert hall turn out to be shiny diamonds.

The kids of Tarumbeta Africa, a local initiative in Kariobangi, one of Nairobi’s shanti towns, dance, singh, laugh, enjoy. Open eyes, open future. If we only could see through their eyes, what would we see? I feel very privileged to be in the position of at least having a try to look at the world from their physical perspective - emotional perspective is yet another thing. Hundreds, thousands, millions of people amidst the tin shacks, the disparate concrete building with walls of laundry, streets, alleys teeming with activity, strong people, incredibly strong people, yet so weak. We need to get the world into the ghetto and the ghetto into the world. We want to be aware of what we do, take every step consciously, have understanding of what we don’t know.

I couldn’t help but see the parallel between Nairobi’s Kariobangi and Amsterdam’s Bijlmer in the pictures. Within KPAG we’ve been talking about wanting to make this connection before. Bob Marley’s Them belly full but we hungry rings in my head.
