DANCE / THEATRE / MUSIC
Introduction
For the first time in Kenyan Art history, Kenya Performing Arts Group (K-PAG) in collaboration with the Kenya National Theatre presents “DA FACTORY CLUB”.We are going to have a series of performances between professional artists from our own organisation and other artists from all over Kenya/around the world who have been waiting for this kind of opportunity to expose their artistic talents in local and professional arena.
Da Factory Club is a weekly event, drawing audiences not only from the theatre audience, other artists but also from Television viewers who will also be given chance to participate through call in sessions or email and text messages to decide the scope nature of performers and performances, from Kenya/East-Africa and even international audience/through website.
The first Factory Club will be aired to the local audience and theatre audience, before the consecutive shows are recorded. Organisations, groups and individuals involved are going to set professional standards under which the performers and performances are to be conducted. During each performance, ranking and identification of best performance is made in a collective decision, and or with involvement of television viewers.
The major catch being that artists will tend to produce their very best if they are given a competitive environment that will not only enhance their creativity, but in the long run will create a forum for all performers to identify their solidarity in matters arising of concern to the arts fraternity. This will enable them have a voice in their own welfares, while at the same time promoting the works of art.
Objectives
- Foster national and international relationship between artists.
- Explore rich artistic talents and bring it to a live performance, in dance, music and drama.
- Create professional pool and market for the performers and their performances to potential sponsors/theatre and dance companies/media/consumers.
- Encourage positive competition which will enable artist to develop their creative and imaginative talents with an aim to bring it to a professional/next level.
- Expose professional artists to potential sponsors, theatre and dance organisations to enable them reach high level of performances.
- Create a forum for discussion amongst artists with an aim of constructing tentative alternatives towards uplifting the level of performing arts in the country.
- Restoring our culture in terms of preserving the nature of traditions, both in music dance and drama with intentions of exposing the diversity of Kenyan culture.
Registration and entrance
Registration and entrance are free of charge in order to allow as many artists who would wish to join and be a member of this club. Notification for performances should be done early before Friday to allow proper planning and organisation of resources that will be needed. Performances can be done as organisation, group or individual.
There will be time limit to the performances to create as much room as possible for performers to adequately exploit there talents. Productive discussions are to be made after all performances to enable them to learn from their counter parts, and give them indications of next performances to bring performers and performances to this professional level.
Media houses and reporters will be allowed to cover the event and air it according to agreements made between them and K-PAG. Specific day and date to record can be arranged with specific interest of having the club also as a television programme.
This will enable both parties to seek sponsors who will in long run support this initiative. In return they can benefit from the publicity this club is sure to attract.
We therefore request you to look for any area which could be of benefit to you, both short and long-term, to guarantee you support in this great initiative to promote Kenyan artists and art culture as a whole. We are willing to meet your representative to discuss any further on this topic.
Interested companies will also benefit from this venture since the club has so far attracted a number of tourists who have also come forward to help with this initiative. For example buying space during this event will guarantee maximum publicity.
